Mighty Mouse was first introduced to television audiences when his theatrical shorts were broadcast on CBS under the title Mighty Mouse Playhouse in 1955.
Inspired by the Superman character, Mighty Mouse told the story of a humble mouse who ate a piece of Supermarket Super Cheese and was transformed into Mighty Mouse. Mighty Mouse wore a flowing red cape, flew through the air, and deflected bullets off his oversized chest. When coming to the rescue, he entered the scene by singing "Here I come to save the day!" The villain Oil Can Harry often threatened Mighty's girlfriend Pearl Pureheart.
After Mighty Mouse Playhouse ended, the Mighty Heroes shared a half-hour cartoon show with Mighty Mouse. The Mighty Heroes, created for Terrytoons by Ralph Bakshi, were five clumsy superheroes — Strongman, Cuckooman, Ropeman, Tornadoman, and Diaperman.
