Participaction

Participaction #1 video

Bartholomew Woods comment:
This is the first of four Participaction commercials I found on the net. Most people of my age will remember these ads from the 70's.

In this video we're told that the "average thirty-year old Canadian is in about the same physical shape as the average sixty-year old Swede."

There was never an explanation as to how "they" arrived at this comparison.

Another Participaction ad from the 70's. (Apologies for the Poor Quality)
This video brings back fond memories. I'm reminded of my early teen-age years when I would rush through dinner so I could join my Block Blazer pals on the street to play hockey.

Mom never understood how important it was to me. There was always some reason to delay me. Some of her favourites were:

"Don't you have homework to do?"

"You can see your friends anytime, but these dirty dishes aren't going to wash themselves!"

"You've played hockey every night this week. Isn't it about time you took a break?"

My usual response was — "Ah Jeez Mom! The guys are waiting!"

Of course, the ultimate humiliation was having to tell your friends you couldn't come out to play because..........."My parents won't let me."

Another Participaction reminder from the 70's that we Canadians were grossly out of shape.

Participaction #4 video

Bartholomew Woods comment:
The last of the 1970's Participaction ads.
A great way to encourage people to exercise? Shame them into it!
